Welcome to the Office of Student Financial Aid at the University of Maryland!
Our office is here to help you understand the financial aid awarding process. The University offers various types of financial support including federal, state, and institutional funds to help cover the cost of education. Most initial awards are based on the assumption that you will enroll full time for the academic year. If you plan to enroll part-time, please review the enrollment requirements for specific aid types at www.financialaid.umd.edu.
The awarding of financial aid is based on several factors including financial need, the date the Free Application for Federal Student (FAFSA) was filed, as well as other aid received. Students cannot receive more aid than it cost to go to college. The cost of education includes tuition, fees, room, board, books, transportation and personal costs. If you are interested in receiving financial aid (scholarships, grants, work-study and loans), please be sure to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you have questions regarding the financial aid process you may call Office of Student Financial Aid, 301-314-9000 and from the menu, select option #1 for Veteran Students.
Emergency Scholarship Aid Available
The Dreamkeepers Emergency Financial Assistance program at the University of Maryland is designed to help students avoid dropping out of school when faced with unforeseen financial difficulties. Dreamkeepers can help ease student worries about housing, food and utilities, tuition and books, transportation, childcare and medical needs, allowing students faced with sudden financial obstacles to focus their energy on education.
Developed with support from Lumina Foundation for Education and the Wal-Mart Foundation, the Dreamkeepers program provides students with emergency funding to allow them to remain in school and obtain a post-secondary education. For further information about Dreamkeepers Emergency Financial Assistance, please direct students to their Financial Aid Counselor, call 301-314-9000 or visit Financialaid.umd.edu
