RESIDENT LIFE
The Department of Resident Life

The Department of Resident Life is the University of Maryland`s unit designated with managing all aspects of the undergraduate student housing experience for students in 35 residence halls and also for coordinating their transition to the two public-private partnership apartments of South Campus Commons and the Courtyards at University of Maryland. Additionally, the Department of Resident Life also assists students in utilizing other services provided by the institution such as Off-Campus Housing Services and Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life as students select to move outside of the residence hall system. While Resident Life only offers undergraduate student housing for individuals, it can assists other students in finding the right resources to aid in their housing search in the surrounding areas near the University of Maryland campus.

Information about our department and housing is contained at the Department of Resident Life web site at www.resnet.umd.edu. Specific information about housing availability and other important considerations can be found at http://www.resnet.umd.edu/housing/veterans.html.

Services for Veterans

The Department of Resident Life is committed to assisting veterans in every way possible. Housing for undergraduate students is based on a designated commitments structure which insures that those students beginning their undergraduate careers will have the best access to residence halls. These "Commitment Groups" can be found at http://www.resnet.umd.edu/announcements/fall2008housingoutlook/housingpolicy.html. Any undergraduate student called to military service can be assured of retaining their position within our commitments groups. Also, any undergraduate student called to service will not face any housing penalties or fees for release from their agreement, and will be eligible for automatic return to the halls if their commitment group is guaranteed housing. Additionally, veterans can be sure of individual attention from our staff for special needs or issues they may face before, during or after their terms of service.
